This map of San Francisco in 1896 has amazing detail of the pre-earthquake city. See those blue rectangles near the top? Those are cemeteries, but don’t try to find them today - they were all dug up when city leaders decided that land was too valuable for dead people. The bodies were removed to the city of Colma to the south of San Francisco.
