Gran Colombia
The short-lived Republic of Colombia, also known as Gran Colombia, came into existence following Simon Bolívar’s successful campaign for South American independence. It encompassed present-day Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela, in the territory of what once was the Viceroyalty of New Granada under Spanish rule. The nation was officially organized in 1821, and it dissolved a decade later.
