Which Do You Prefer?

Starting a new project - a redesign of the Denver RTD light rail map - and here’s a very initial screenshot of progress so far. Two options shown for the downtown loop: the top one has the lines crossing over each other from the Theatre District station down to California Street, while the bottom one has the lines “peeling” down to California Street. Which do you like best?

6. 124cb answered: I like the crossing over. Gives a clearer sense of the lines continuing, and that the red line doesn’t end on the SW corner of the loop.

14. nickchops answered: The bottom one looks nicer - a little neater - but the top one is easier to understand at a glance. Bottom gives false impression of a circle

16. fuckyeahmrduck answered: While I do like the bottom option aesthetically the top option ensures you have more continuous lines rather than broken lines.

18. goatarchitecture answered: Lower one is cleaner graphically. Thinking if I was in a hurry trying to decipher things, the top one is more obvious (comparing the green)

21. notonthedole answered: Top one, it’s far clearer in terms of what you’re trying to communicate IMO. That said I think it could be communicated in a more elegant way
